Helping to fuel our NHS heroes

To all the incredible NHS staff and key workers across the country, we want to say a huge heartfelt thank you. As a small sign of our appreciation, we’ve donated 100,000 Lyons coffee bags so far to help support and fuel our NHS heroes on the frontline ‐ and hopefully give them a well‐deserved pick‐me‐up.

We’re firm believers that a decent cup of hot coffee can help lift the spirits. To brighten up the day of hardworking NHS staff at Darent Valley Hospital, just a stone’s throw away from our Roastery in Dartford, our team recently delivered over 4,500 Lyons Coffee Bags.

While some of our coffee has been sent to NHS facilities directly, we’ve also been working in collaboration with some of our customers to distribute the donations nationwide, including Compass Group, Foodbuy, Sodexo and Elior.

Together, we’ve provided:

  • Almost 100,000 Lyons coffee bags across 47 hospitals throughout the UK
  • 145 cases of coffee bags to Compass Group’s Medirest catering service, for 10,000 much‐needed care packages they’ve created for NHS staff
  • And eight coffee machines for the new temporary Louisa Jordan Hospital at SEC Glasgow, serving UCC’s Grand Café Rainforest Alliance coffee to the fantastic NHS team on‐site

It’s inspiring to see so many foodservice and hospitality companies coming together in innovative ways to do their bit to support frontline workers. We love Compass Group’s partnership with convenience retailer Costcutter. They’ve opened pop‐up stores in hospitals throughout the UK, to provide essentials, such as groceries and household products, to hospital staff, so they don’t need to tackle a supermarket shop at the end of a long shift.

These pop‐ups are currently running in twenty hospitals around the country and there are plans to open even more – a simple yet effective initiative that gets a big thumbs up from us at UCC.

During these unprecedented times, our number one priority is the welfare and safety of our employees, customers and the communities we work within, while minimising the risk of disruption to our service. Visit our website for regular Covid-19 updates – you can read the latest update here.
