Orang Utan Coffee

OUR WORK WITH ORANG UTAN COFFEE

Orang Utan Coffee – a 100% Arabica, single-origin coffee born from a mission to save the rapidly declining rainforest habitat of the Sumatran orangutan.

DELIVERING THE SUSTAINABLE COFFEE THAT STUDENTS LOVE.

DRINK COFFEE. SAVE ORANGUTANS.

THE CHALLENGE

Year on year, consumers are increasingly interested in sustainable and responsibly sourced products, and this is just as true for coffee. With pressing issues such as deforestation often topping the agenda, having a coffee offering that aligns with your consumers' values is of paramount importance for growth. And with over 84% of consumers stating farmers' livelihood is a factor of concern when considering social environmental issues, a coffee that directly tackles this issue should be assessed as part of your offering.

DRINK COFFEE. SAVE ORANGUTANS.

THE SOLUTION

Orang Utan is the UK’s first-ever blockchain-traced coffee, in partnership with farmer connect ©, with technology powered by IBM through the “Thank my Farmer” app. This means Farmer Connect and UCC can ensure farmers are being paid a fair wage for their vital work. In addition, a portion of these sales are donated to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Program (SOCP) and also to local, on-the-ground farming community programs, to directly improve the lives of the communities involved.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

Orang Utan Coffee is a perfect match for many consumer types, including higher education outlets and garden centres. As a result, Orang Utan Coffee has been extremely successful when introduced into higher education outlets such as the University of Sussex and Woodhouse Grove School in Yorkshire, to name just two. In addition to this, with 66% of Gen Z respondents stating that quality is the most important thing to them when making a purchase, sustainability isn’t the only consumer need state that Orang Utan can satisfy - needless to say, its quality is assured by UCC's market leading high standards.

THE IMPACT

At Woodhouse Grove school in particular, the impact on coffee sales and consumer attitudes has been tangible, with coffee sales in double digit growth year on year. Franco Caroleo, catering manager at Woodhouse Grove School says “I do feel that the Orang Utan coffee brand has helped our coffee sales with powerful messaging; this has driven strong purchases of coffee. I know when they do make a purchase, they are supporting a great cause”.

IN THEIR WORDS

WHEN WE MET NEIL FROM UCC, HE TALKED ABOUT THE ORANG UTAN BRAND AND HOW THE PROJECT COMBINES SPECIES AND HABITAT CONSERVATION WITH SUSTAINABLE COFFEE PRODUCTION AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. THE COFFEE ALSO TASTED AMAZING - WHICH WAS ALSO A DECIDING FACTOR.
